Air India Flight 171 Crashes on Takeoff from Ahmedabad — 204 Confirmed Dead

Ahmedabad, India — June 12, 2025. A major tragedy struck today as Air India Flight 171 crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.

The flight was headed to London Gatwick Airport. It was carrying 242 people on board. Authorities have confirmed that at least 204 bodies have been recovered from the crash site.

According to Air India, the passengers included 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 1 Canadian, and 7 Portuguese citizens.

The plane crashed just moments after taking off. It went down near the airport, causing massive destruction and fire. Eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion and flames rising from the crash site. Debris is scattered across the area.

More than 90 emergency response workers are at the site. Rescue teams are working to find any possible survivors. The flight was scheduled to arrive at London Gatwick at 6:25 PM local time (17:25 GMT). Authorities in the UK have been notified, and consular services are being coordinated for the victims’ families.

Live visuals from the site show debris scattered around the airport’s outskirts. The area has been cordoned off as search and recovery operations continue.

The Prime Minister of India expressed deep sorrow over the incident, pledging full support to the victims’ families. Leaders from the UK and other nations have also extended condolences.
